Chip Seal is an application of a bituminous binder covered with an application of clean graded aggregate to an existing asphalt surface. It is also known as bituminous surface treatment or seal coat. The binders may be emulsified asphalts, paving grade asphalt cements, and versions of each being modified with various polymers.
The slurry seal must build sufficient cohesion to resist abrasion due to traffic. Otherwise, it will ravel off quickly, particularly in high stress areas Early stone shedding is normal, but should not exceed 3% General rule of thumb for a slurry seal . Chapter 8 –Slurry Seals
Sep 08, 2019· Slurry Seal Checklist 2 Project Review Verify that the project is a good candidate for slurry seal by confirming the absence of any alligator cracking indicative of subgrade failure or inadequate subsurface drainage. Investigate whether any rutting exists on the pavement, and if so, is ¼ in. or less in depth.
